He Heals the Broken-Hearted

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives. Isa 61

At the centre of this painting lies a shattered red heart set within a bleak, barren surrounding. The cracks in the heart are lovingly repaired with veins of gold, reminiscent of kintsugi, where broken objects are mended with precious metals to reveal their beauty and history. This golden restoration symbolises the divine healing that comes from God. Attached to the heart is a vibrant green stem, representing the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit, flowing directly from Heaven. This stem, filled with God's grace, signifies the divine energy that first created the heart and now works to heal and uplift it.

The surrounding leaves and blossoms flourish, embodying the growth and renewal that comes from faith. Butterflies flutter around, representing the transformation and new beginnings promised through Christ.

This artwork is inspired by Isaiah 61:1, which speaks of the Lord's anointing to bind up the brokenhearted.

It serves as a beacon of hope, inviting those who have experienced heartbreak to embrace the healing and transformation offered by our Creator.

Reflection: Allow God to bring to memory a crack in your heart.

Feel the emotions of that pain. Recall the ashes in the aftermath of that heart wound.

Now surrender those negative emotions to the cross and visualise His divine power flow into that crack, restoring, closing the wound.

Allow His peace and joy to fill your heart.

Journal your divine exchange and do leave a comment below if this has spoken to you.

Simple art for reflection

  1. "Heart Mended": Draw or paint a broken heart being stitched or bound back together. Use symbols like thread, vines, or light to represent the healing process.

  2. "Bandages of Love": Draw or collage a heart wrapped in bandages made of words or symbols that represent love, support, and compassion. Show how these bandages are helping to mend the heart.
